Daniel’s testimony is one among thousands impacted by the ministry of Models for Christ. MFC exists to glorify God by presenting the Gospel in and through the fashion industry as we encourage industry professionals to know, love, and honor God.
HOW IT BEGAN…
The vision of Models for Christ was born in Milan, Italy in 1982. A few months into his modeling career, Jeff Calenberg designed and distributed a small pamphlet that presented the prestige and struggles of the fashion industry and how Jesus Christ can provide true fulfillment. Since then, Models for Christ has grown and expanded from models to photographers, agents, fashion designers, makeup artists, stylists and other fashion industry professionals throughout the world.
WHY IT BEGAN…
The fashion industry permeates our world through television, Internet and magazines. It has significant power, influence, attraction and allure to our present generations and influences our local, national and global cultural trends. This is seen in the rise of fashion television, reality shows and the growing interest in fashion trends among teenagers today.
The men and women gracing the pages of catalogs and magazines are not just images but real people - people whose eternal destiny is hanging in the balance. These individuals are in desperate need of hearing the Gospel. Many are looking for deeper answers to their life that only a relationship with Christ can bring. Others have a calling to pursue a career in this field and desire to honor Christ in that pursuit. MFC exists as the sole, longstanding lighthouse for those seeking God in the fashion industry.
ABOUT MFC…
Domestically, we hold regular meetings in NYC, Miami and Los Angeles. Members work and travel the world sharing the Gospel and uniting with believers that are otherwise isolated and out of fellowship. Through discipleship, Bible studies and outreach events to serve our communities, we build up and equip believers to share the Gospel to their industry peers. We also challenge believers to examine and reflect on their goals, work and workplace behavior in light of the Gospel. We encourage them to work with excellence in their field as unto the Lord and closely examine the common struggles, challenges and temptations that are natural to the world of fashion that can subtlety build a wall of sin between the believer and God.
Through the internet and our contacts around the world we are globally connecting and building Models for Christ International, which will in turn have a dynamic impact on all the major fashion capitals of the world, including Paris, Tokyo and London!
ABOUT MFC-LA…
This local chapter meets at a Beverly Hills modeling agency and ministers to 15+ men and women each Wednesday night. They provide dinner each week, study God’s word, and pray for each other’s needs. MFC-LA also participates in mission trips and last holiday season initiated a winter clothing drive for the homeless with local modeling agencies.
They are seeing tangible fruit through confession and repentance among members and growth in the Lord as members are stepping out in faith amidst the pressures of the industry. One young woman recently refused to pose naked at a photo shoot and risked getting kicked out of her agency. Another young woman rededicated her life to the Lord and is now seeking help for deliverance from alcoholism. A newer member to MFC-LA prayed out loud for the first time in his life at a meeting. And several others have temporarily left LA on short-term missionary trips to India and Sri Lanka.
FULFILLING OUR PURPOSE…
Whether we choose to believe it or not, the industry is everywhere persuading and convincing us to follow it. By ignoring the power it has on our society today, we are allowing another key influence in our world to slip away. By acknowledging it, we have the opportunity to give each mouthpiece a platform to speak the Truth instead of the lies of the world.
We desire to use this industry’s platform for God’s glory. Above all, the nature of the fashion industry is devoid of God’s presence and it is clear that someone needs to stand in the gap! Over the years we have seen God raise up mission-minded industry professionals who see their career as an opportunity to build the Kingdom of God.
